Album Redesign - Ben Howard
While studying Graphic Design at RMIT one of the projects I worked on was a rebranding of an artist’s album. This involved a full makeover of one of their album covers - front cover, back cover and a liner notes spread.
I chose Ben Howard’s album “I forgot where we were”. We had to do two styles, one in the style of which the artist is known for – which in Ben’s case is the genre indie folk/indie rock, and also in the style of a completely different genre. I went with Jazz.

THE CHALLENGE
So of the biggest challenges I faced was picking the right font for this album and making sure it would fit within the theme. I also had the images originally around the other way which meant that, in the printing stage, the front cover would have been on the back and visa versa.
Another challenge I struggled to wrap my head around was the sizing of the letterforms and how big it would look once it's printed and that if I think it's too small, I could probably still go smaller again.

THE SOLUTION
Some of the most interesting parts with this design work was how colour can invoke an emotion and feel for a project. I was creating a really moody yet calm layout with the first design.
You can see the number of versions I came up with in photoshop until I was happy with the one, I went with. Also working with Adobe Dimension to create the 3D rendered layout. It was a bit of a struggle to work out the scene that would best show off the design.
